Maximum cable length between CR1000 and AM16-32B

zhangyp Apr 13, 2011 02:41 AM

Hello everyone:
I want to use one CR1000 with 6 AM16-32B multiplexer to measure many temperature sensors ,and the 6 AM16-32B be placed at various location. The 6 locations are far from each other, so I need use long cable to connect CR1000 to AM16-32B,
the maximum cable length is 80 meters, I am not sure this system can work normal in future, so I want to know how long this cable can up to? Is there any body had such experience?

There are lots of factors that influence max cable length, including quality of cable especially its screening, power supplies (need higher voltage and thicker cables for long cable runs) and type of sensor (where the measurement principle of the sensor may be affected by extra cable resistance/capacitance).

Having said all of that careful customers of ours have used multiplexers with cables up to and I believe beyond 100m in length.

If possible use newer AM16/32Bs (serial numbers >5056, start of 2009) as we changed the design to allow the multiplexer to run from lower supply voltages (the datasheet still reflects the original design). Those units will be less susceptible to voltage drop in the power cables.
