cr1000 & RavenXTV help

SMM Sep 7, 2010 03:10 PM

I will be using a RavenXTV cellular modem to transfer data from a CR1000 with CFM100 and CF card. Never having done this before, I have a few questions.

1. The Setup menu in Loggernet 4 is where I arrange to have the computer call the modem to get data from the CF card, yes?

2. Does the computer have to be on, connected to internet, and have Loggernet active all the time, or only when it is time to call the modem?

3. I was going to use my laptop for this purpose. Do I have to have the computer connected to the same internet connection at all times, or can I switch between work and home as needed?

4. What about wireless connection versus hardwired connection?

5. Anything else I might need to know that is not in the RavenXTV manual?

Thanks!

Yes. LoggerNet will collect from the datalogger first, if there is additional data on the CF card it will collect that also. You don't need to do anything special in LoggerNet.

2. Does the computer have to be on, connected to internet, and have Loggernet active all the time, or only when it is time to call the modem?

Only when it is time to call.

3. I was going to use my laptop for this purpose. Do I have to have the computer connected to the same internet connection at all times, or can I switch between work and home as needed?

It doesn't matter where you connect from, you can move back and forth between work and home. You will want to make sure you are using the same datalogger in your LoggerNet setup.

4. What about wireless connection versus hardwired connection?

That shouldn't make a difference either. If you are downloading a lot of data and one connection is faster than another you may notice that.

5. Anything else I might need to know that is not in the RavenXTV manual?

Let us know if you run into problems or have other questions.

Janet

I successfully set up the modem and connected it with the rest of my equipment in the lab last night. I was able to schedule a data collection call from my laptop to the modem, and get some test data.

I deployed all the equipment to the field location this morning, but I have been unable to communicate with the modem since then. I tried to schedule data collection after I got back to the lab, but the attempt failed. I also tried to connect to the logger through the modem, using Connect screen in Loggernet.

In Setup, I have this: IPPort>>PakbusPort>>CR1000.
The IP address is: 60b3abd9.eairlink.com:3001

I have a dynamic IP, and I set it up following the Raven manual. The network light on the modem was turned on, so I assume it gets acceptable service.

Do you have any idea what might be happening? I do not want to go back out to the field site without an idea of what to do once I get there.

These are the error messages I get when I try to connect to the logger via Connect in Loggernet:

I looked at the Raven, all the settings look correct. I also loaded your settings into my Loggernet 4 and was able to connect. Double check all the settings in your Loggernet setup per the raven manual.
Not sure if you realize this but eairlink is a free service provided by airlink and as such occasionally goes offline. Perhaps you just hit it at a bad time? A static IP address wouldn't have this potential issue, other than an internet problem.
