CR1000 communication 2 PCs

karivelm Aug 31, 2010 05:51 PM

Hi

I would like to know how to connect one CR1000 to 2 PCs. On one of these PCs I would like to poll the logger in real-time get updates as often as possible and send the data to a historian like PI.

On the other PC it would be acceptable to poll information every hour.

Is it possible to use 2 different com ports and and poll at the same time using loggernet.

Ex.: NL120 (peripheral port)
COM220 (CS IO port)

It is certainly possible for two instances of LoggerNet to communicate with the datalogger and, depending upon the link type, they can even do so simultaneously. The only thing that you would have to be careful of is to ensure that each of the PakBusPort devices in each LoggerNet instance has a unique PakBus address. If you use the NL120 and both LoggerNet host computers can reach the CR1000, they can both connect to the datalogger using TCP/IP.

Another alternative to having two instances of LoggerNet communicating with the same datalogger is to use LoggerNet (or LoggerNet Admin) on one host and use LoggerNet Remote on the other host.

Is there a way to certify that I may use the CS IO port with a connexion via a COM220 via modem to a PC at the same time as another port (serial(RF401) or peripheral(NL120))

The COM220 and the RF401 can coexist on the CS I/O port provided that they are assigned two different SDC addresses. The easiest way to do this is to model your network in the network planner (part of LoggerNet 4.0). This will generate the settings for the RF401 and also provide a diagram for how to configure the switches on the COM220.

The CR1000 can accept input from any device on the CS I/O port (again provided that the devices have unique SDC addresses) as well as on multiple TCP/IP connections over the NL120.
