Modbus 502 and Loggernet coexistence

Anton May 23, 2010 02:35 PM

I have a CR1000 with NL115. Loggernet is running on a remote computer, collecting data every 15 minutes. If I set up the CR1000 as a Modbus slave and query it from another computer, will this confuse the CR1000? Are these two methods of communicating with the CR1000 designed to coexist?

Thanks,

Anton

The two protocols can normally coexist sometimes even on the same serial link (at least as far as the Logger is concerned) as the structure of Pakbus and Modbus packets are distinct.

However, if you are talking about using Modbus over TCP/IP there is a further distinction as the Modbus data is exchanged on a different socket to normal Loggernet communications, so there will be no risk of confusion.

Great, thanks. I look forward to trying that.
