Combining CS616 probes and voltage differential in am16/32

RafaelPoyatos Mar 18, 2010 11:19 AM

Dear all,

What's the best configuration (wiring, programming) for a am16/32 to measure 3 cs616 soil moisture probes and use the rest of the multiplexer channels for voltage differential measurements (as many as possible)?

Thanks!

Simplest is to measure the 3 CS616 sensors on the logger analog inputs and reserve the entire AM16/32 for differential voltages, i.e. all the same type.

If you are that short of channels on the logger, you can wire and setup the AM16/32 for 2-wire differential analog measurements then after all your voltage measurements connect the CS616s output wires to the free H or L inputs of the next free channels. Connect all the other CS616 wires back to the datalogger as normal including the enable wires to seperate control ports.

In your program measure the analog sensors in one standard loop, but leave the multiplexer enabled. Pulse the clock channel once to move to the CS616 channels and measure them as normal matching the channel numbers to the two SE inputs the AM16/32 is connected to and the control ports to the ones relevant for the CS616 enable lines. Then clock the multiplexer again and do the measurements for the remaining CS616, changing the control port and variable names to suit.
Then disable (lower) the multiplexer enable line, to turn it off.
