Connect Screen's "graph" vs RTMC's "chart"

mwassmer Feb 27, 2012 06:25 PM

I am a little confused about some apparent similarities and differences between these two tools. I've been specifically comparing the two with regards to their treatment of the public data table. BTW, I'm using a CR1000, LN 4.1, and its bundled version of RTMC.

My understanding is that both RTMC and the Connect Screen client use LoggerNet's binary data cache as their one and only data source. However, the Connect Screen appears to collect data automatically depending on the "update interval," while RTMC is dependent upon an explicit scheduled data collection.

My specific questions follow:
- Does the public table in the LoggerNet cache ever hold more than one record?
- Is the Connect Screen client performing the exact same type of data collection as the scheduled data collection in the Setup Screen client?

The LoggerNet brochure and manual present these two graphing tools as essentially equivalent options for "real-time" data display. Therefore, I'm am confused about the following two items:
- Why should one be used instead of the other?
- If the respective data collection mechanisms are the same, why doesn't RTMC have an "update interval" option like the Connect Screen client so that an explicit scheduled data collection interval doesn't have to be set up?

Thank you in advance for your insights.
