avw4 and multiplexer 16/32

vai7strings Feb 6, 2012 07:29 AM

Dear All

My sales engineer was make mistake to order avw200, but he order two avw4 and two multiplexer 16/32B. the question is how to connect the avw4 with two multiplier 16/32B?, because i want to read about 60 sensors vibrating wire piezometer. i couldn't find the program to avw4 in ShortCut, there's only for avw200.

its possible to connect datalogger with mux 16/32B throught one avw4?

Thanks,

vai

What datalogger are you using to get the measurements from the AVW device and multiplexers ?

If you are using a CR1000, CR800 series, or CR3000, I would just return the AVW4 devices and get the AVW200 devices instead. Each AVW200 can measure 32 VW sensors (when using 2 each AM16/32B devices -- 16 sensors per mux). So to measure 60 sensors you would need 2 AVW200s and 4 AM16/32B multiplexers. It is possible to get more AM16/32Bs connected to a single AVW200, but at that point, you will have to create your own CRBasic Program (SCWIN won't generate it for you).

Assuming you use 2 muxes per AVW200, you can use shortcut to generate the program for measuring those 60 sensors. The AVW200 uses Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques to achieve immunity to unwanted noise frequencies. This is quite an improvement over the mechanism used by the AVW4 to obtain the frequency from the sensors.

We are phasing out our sales of the AVW4, and so if you ever want to deploy other systems similar to this one in the future, it may make more sense to implement it with AVW200 devices.

However, it is possible to connect AM16/32B devices to an AVW4. If you must proceed in that direction, you can get some guidance for how to write a CRBasic program by calling our Geotechnical/Structural support line at 435-227-9040. However, you will have to write that program and won't be able to use SCWIN to generate it.

Also -- the CRBasic program would contain the VibratingWire instruction -- you can read about how to use this instruction and find a sample program in the CRBasic help.

If these were just purchased, I would recommend that you see what you could do to trade out the AVW4s for AVW200s.

The AVW200 is far more immunue to noise, and has beeter resolution and accuracy.

Thanks for all advice, its have to install immediately. need more time to change the device. Finally I use program CRBASIC to read it and I hope there is no problem in installation :)

Thanks full

Definitely go with the AVW200.
Love the screen name.
