SDM IO16 overvoltage protection

JBecker Aug 19, 2011 07:13 AM

Hello together,

we are planing to use a SDM-IO16.
Looking into the manual page 5 (the simplified port circuits) I do not see any kind of overvoltage protection apart from diode and a resistor.
I assume the inputs are not protected with GDT's like the ports of the CR800/1000 ?

We have use the CR800/1000 always without external overvoltage protection and never were faced with problems, even if sensors were directly hit by a lightning strike.
I would like to know if it is recommend to protect the input externaly against overvoltage?
If the SDM-IO16 has the same overvoltage protection as the CR800 I would not see any requirement.

thanking you in advance,

Johannes
