I am connecting and communicating between an Iridium modem model A3LA-X and a CR1000. I have tested and can connect to the logger via the iridium modem on the rs232 port with a null modem inline between the logger and modem. Also, I can connect via the csio port with an sc932a inline between the logger and modem.
Is one method preferable or more stable than the other? Also, there is literature in the new campbell/iridium manual (July 2010) about sending the iridium configuration setup to the modem once or twice per day. The logger programming instructions for this employ the serialopen command so I assume that is if the modem is connected on the rs232 port?
Hi Furban,
I don't know anything about the Iridiums, but I do know a little about the dataloggers :)
SerialOpen can be used to open the RS232 or the CS I/O. CS I/O will be limited to 9600 baud. From the manual, it is suggested to use 19.2K baud when using the CR1000, CR3000, or CR800, so I suspect the RS232 port in their example.
The CS I/O port is seen as an advantage when you are able to power the device from the port, which wouldn't be applicable to the Iridium.
